You can call me Caity.

My name is Caitlin, but you can call me Caity. I'm a graduate student studying urban planning and public health, and I'm passionate about the well-being of cities and the people who live in them. As an admirer of wholesome living and a true lover of learning, I hope this blog can help us both explore the art of living well in healthy places!

I read and commented on this article a few weeks ago, and remembered today (after almost getting hit by a skateboarder, of all people, while biking to school) to look for a response from Carrie, the author.

Many America roads are dominated by the automobile, but as some communities move to integrate multiple modes of transportation on the roadways, problems arise.  How do we get buses, cars, bikes, and pedestrians to share the blacktop safely?  I think, as in most cases, the answer is education.

In her response to me, Carrie mentioned Philadelphia’s “Give Respect, Get Respect” campaign aimed at educating people about the rules of the road.  I’ll be interested to see what sort of outcomes this campaign produces, as it is certainly an important and worthwhile effort.  I, for one, have definitely had enough close encounters with other drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to know how scary the roads can be, and how important it is for all of us to pay better attention to who’s sharing the road with us while moving about!
